Now is that time of the year when we all feel sooooo heart-struck over a collection that we have to share our obsession for it with the five continents of this planet (i know, that was a little bit exaggerated, but it’s partly true). New York fashion week started the 10th of February and since then i haven’t been wowed by any collection presented, yet, i have liked a few ones. But the Olsen sisters fall 2011 collection for their label, The Row, is my favorite (so far). What’s awesome (and excuse my tacky “awesome” word), is how they have developed and morphed into something amazing, season by season and pre-collection by pre-collection in front of our eyes. At first, in their fall 2010 collection, everything seemed, for me, as if they were playing dressing up the models in pieces from their closets, and i was a bit skeptical (let’s face it, not always the “celebrity/fashion designer” mix works). But then, their minimalistic and over-the-top aesthetic (Mixed together. See the fox fur dress below) was a win-win equation for me. For this season they presented a collection that was illustrated in my wrecked brain as timeless pieces full of film noir references, 1920’s scenarios, Marlene Dietrich, hypocrisy, Alfred Hitchcock movies, suspense, church sinners, art deco and Juliette Gréco (call that a wrecked brain). The color palette consisted, mostly, of black, with pops of burnt yellow, burgundy, white, dust grey and surprisingly, sky blue (which was presented on a fur coat, awesome right?). Saying everything that i’ve said above, now you, my dear reader *with a sweet motherly/grandma voice* enjoy the full collection.
