My 3 ultimate favorite music festival inspired looks styled by the amazing Liz Moreno using pieces from Espacio Vintage (the store I’m currently working with) and photographed by me (I’m not a photographer, it was a favor *blushed*).

The whole project was based on the idea of how people could dress for the upcoming Festival Verde of culture and music (happening this Saturday) in which the store will have it’s own stand.

Josse Karlo’s collection was worth watching, it was the best collection from all the designers who showed. I’ll make a whole new post for that collection. Some pictures I took backstage from a styling gig the store put me to work on. The final product ended up hard to understand since it was an accessories shoot, and it was difficult to make the client understand while trying to stay true to my persona. Liz, who helped me not to freak out while the client wasn’t liking any of the funky yet quirky and tribal looks super toned down (hate the client and her stuff, there I said it). As for the pictures, don’t ask me anything, and to be honest I liked more the pictures I un-professionally took backstage (don’t miss-understand me, the photographer is amazing, but it’s not a fashion photographer so it was really hard to deal with).

It’s been quite a while since I last posted something, and in that while I got myself a job, bought a new laptop, AND GOT MYSELF A JOB. I’ll finish with MFW ss’2012 by Saturday. Tomorrow I’m off for some retail therapy with my best friend. While all that happens, or has happen, enjoy one of my favorite editorials in quite a long, long, long while.

London Fashion Week Spring 2012

Richard Nicoll:

Through the years I’ve become quite a cult-loving fan of Richard Nicoll’s work. This spring he actually wowed me, presenting a collection that was clearly inspired by the 60’s, to be specific and according to what he explained, he was inspired by Henri-Georges Clouzot’s unfinished film “L’enffer” (1964), it’s unfinished yet it’s beautifully unfinished (if that makes any sense at all *said I’m my best english accent*). After explaining the inspiration, and re-searching it you got hooked-up in it. When comparing the movie and the collection, there was a scene where the main character is being choked with some kind of iridescent plastic paper that could be interpreted here as the pink dress with a clear plastic overlay as shown above as an example (or it could simply resemble one of those uncomfortable plastic couch covers that were so popular in that decade), and also the many lighting effect used that could be the flowery water-color printed pieces that were both airy and ghostly. There was also a futurism that echoed the many iconic collections from Pierre Cardin from the 60’s to the mid 70’s that was easily spot-able via the circular hoops on many dresses. Ruffles played quite a strong but soft role (you already know me, it makes sense to me) overall, making some pieces look like nightgowns, here is where underwear or pj’s seem like a great option to leave the house in. One of favorite collections this season.

Christopher Kane:

Most designers are inspired by beauty in all kind of ways but to me it’s beyond interesting when designers use tragic, hard-to-understand, sickness, death, etc… topics like those, as inspiration for their collections. Christopher Kane’s outing for this season was pretty much a mixture of abstract thoughts and subjects involving bullying, the girls we hate at school (yes, those mean girls who gave us weird looks for being ourselves, you know what I’m talking about) and pictures of teenage girls in council-state bedrooms with a hand full of stickers. Saying pretty much what was explained by Tim Blanks gives a little more sense to the collection. Those stickers pretty much were portrayed here via those flowery prints over this “ghost fabric” (that I obviously had to mention) made of aluminum and organza that was sort of the gimmicky fact of this collection. Another thing that I noticed were the origami folds, that gave me nods to Issey Miyake’s work, that also resembled wallpaper pilling out (from the pictures of the teenage girls) –a thing that actually gave more sense to the collection after being explained. Embellishments were sent in the final pieces of the collection, mostly flowery sparkly patterned embellishments -another nod to the stickers. As a reflection to all the digging that haves to be done to understand a collection makes me reach the conclusion that not everything has to make sense.

J.W Anderson:

Jonathan Anderson (a.k.a J.W Anderson) is relatively new to scene, and he’s here to stay. The Irish designer’s sophomore collection was rather tough, super structured yet loose (it makes sense), quite experimental and almost soft. The word “chaotic” actually falls perfectly when referring to this collection. Why?. Because it was full chaotic pieces. Yes, most of them were classic pieces if you notice, but more like twisted classic pieces as each and every one of them had a strong personality and a sense of anarchy behind them that can be told after explaining the whole plot behind the overall collection. The collection was based on the idea of “a schoolgirl raised by nuns, finally escaping the convent” –in Tim Blanks words. The idea of that specific girl living under the many restrictions can be illustrated by the many knots and stitched fabrics on several “cardigan dresses” (here’s where the experimental part of the collection takes place -for me-) or on the laced-up pieces like the suit (that opened the show) that basically mixed panels of stripped cotton attached to leather (psss, pssss, hard & soft anyone?) with matching stripped cotton slim pants. Other highlights were the many echoes to sportswear via the perforated pieces, the paisley print and some kind of embellishment that I still cant figure out what it is, maybe chain-mail attached pailletes?. To conclude, I also noticed some kind of a Lisbeth Salander sensitivity under this collection.

Acne:Acne’s spring 2012 collection felt different to anything Jonny Johansson had done in the past. Said to have taken a trip to Morocco for inspiration, the designer, rather showed what an specific type of girl, let’s say the Acne girl, would wear to go there interpreted in the most urban way possible. The hard & soft mix is worth mentioning since most of the collection is styled mixing hard and soft fabrics illustrated here (on the 2nd look) which basically is a pair of leather motorcycle-rubberized above-the-knee shorts paired with a cropped oatmeal-thick knitted sweater. There was also an easily 90’s grungy-ness via the oversized looks that possessed that thrown-together-in-5-minutes ease and coolness that I believe a lot of people seek when buying clothes and putting together outfits. Caftans echoed what most Morocco’s native people wear daily, here illustrated in a kind of watermelon-ish color trimmed in red. Peek-a-boo cut-outs were also present in the forever-growing “star print” fall trend (made famous and boring thanks to Dolce & Gabbana -no-hate-) in cropped tops and flared a-line skirts. I was drawn to the printed pieces, I’m still trying to figure out what exactly the print is but to me it looks like crystal. Overall the collection was sharp and loose at the same time, urban to it’s maximum level, and quite minimalistic. Round of applauses for Jonny Johansson.

“Rodarte Spring 2012”

Rodarte. Rodarte. Rodarte. This was one of those collections where fashion meets art to it’s maximum level print-wise. The whole idea of using Vicent van Gogh’s paints as prints was pretty interesting since they took them and stamped them into un-conventional yet classic shapes reminiscent of the 50’s prom dresses (one thing I love) levitating down the runway. Then, according to Nicole Phelps, the Mulleavy sisters said that they were also inspired by Disney’s take on the classic fairy tale: “Sleeping Beauty”, a theme that was mostly abstract until Vlada Rolsyakova came out wearing a midnight blue enchanting evening dress with a black sheer tulle overlay embellished with crystals and when Karlie Kloss closed the show in an evening purple gown with a (yes sheer tulle overlays are THE thing) sheer tulle overlay fully embellished with crystals. Crystal pretty much adorned several looks, making the princess-y theme understandable even though it all made sense at the end of the collection. Color-wise the sisters used pretty much elaborated a color palette quoting van Gogh’s greens, purples, and yellow tones.

Not my favorite collection from Rodarte, but I like it, very beautiful collection.

“This Brazilian almost made me shed a tear”

For his spring 2012 collection, said to be inspired and made from vintage fabrics the designer purchased from a store who was shutting down in Brazil, Herchcovitch presented a rather lady-like, romantic, nostalgic, vintage-y and completely beautiful collection. Filled with embroideries and understated embellishment via same-pattern-embroideries in several pieces, and “shy” floral prints that were attached to each look made my mind travel back in time. It’s more than obvious to mention those baseball New Era caps that were quite out-but-in-of-place (if you know what I mean) when paired with those silk, cotton duchesse satin pieces fully embellished. Bows and flared skirts were quite an ode to the late 40’s early 50’s, along with the slightly art nouveau floral brocades.

Another thing that was playing with my head was trying to figure out which fabrics were the vintage ones and which pieces were re-worked, yet the difference is quite impossible to make through pictures.

I rather not go into making a huge full analysis on why this collection was mere beautiful, and how it almost made me shed a tear because I wouldn’t stop writing. This is one of those collection I will remember for quite a long time. And I’m not exaggerating.

“Why sell cookies when you can just walk in a scout uniform?”

This was one of my favorite collections for Spring 2012. Launched 2 seasons ago, Raf Simons has been hitting all the right notes designing this contemporary minimal diffusion line, maybe with the idea of Jil Sander Navy being the daughter of Jil Sander (it was obvious to say that, right?). The girl scout motif was super evident yet it wasn’t costume-y as it wasn’t taken too far, another thing I noticed was what i call “the abstract sense of some kind of blissful innocent purity” that was radiating from every look, and as i see it, it was the same kind of blissful innocent purity a child can radiate, of course, here translated into clothes. A-line skirts, simple silhouettes, clean lines and an ethereal color palette completed this beautiful collection.

I’ve, personally, been a fan of The Row since the brand started, and seeing the amazing work both, Mary-Kate and Ashley, are doing leaves me speechless. They’ve been getting better and better season after season. The craftsmanship and the amount of work put into each piece is noticeable and admirable yet everything feels fresh and effortless. Very artisanal collection, simply beautiful.

***PS: I’ve been hell busy, I started a Fashion Design and Basic Sewing Course, and I still have some pending stuff with my high school, oooh and I almost forgot to tell you all: last Friday was my last day of High School (pre-paid Chinese torture). That’s the reason why my post are going to be short as well as my comments/reviews of my favorite Spring 2012 collections.

“Three As Four”

Witchcraft, science fiction, superstitions and religion were all abstractly yet literally (it does make sense) captured in this collection. Everything from the runway setting to the clothes, to the makeup, to the hair, everything was strategically arranged making this collection quite enchanting in a superstitious way while the models looked like nomad alien fairies. Threeasfour designers: Gabriel Asfour, Angela Donhauser and Adi Gil put together a collection using several religious and superstitious elements such as The Star of David or The Jewish Star that consist of 2 opposite triangles meaning the ruling tribe of Judah and the former ruling tribe of Benjamin, and the Evil Eye which can be translated as good or bad luck (it varies). But then, this is not a religious class I’m giving you. And those religious elements were sprung all over the collection either in prints over flowy chiffon or crafted in details such as in the 3rd look here, in the case of the Jewish Star; or used as embellishment in the case of the “Evil Eye”. In general this collection was beautifully crafted, making me put it in a neo-classic-experimental-kind-of-art that exorcises some of the many demons of our society.

“Sporty Spice”

So this was basically what I was working on with a school buddy. I know little, to not say: “barely anything” when it comes to Photoshop and all of those photo-editing programs. Someday I’ll be hooked up with those odd softwares. Anyways, Spring 2012 fashion weeks started almost 2 months ago and I couldn’t had waited longer to show you what I liked from what was presented in New York, London, Milan and Paris. Starting in New York, with Alexander Wang which was definitely a love-hate case for me, since it took me a while to actually love the entire collection. But, yet again Mr. Wang has made me fall in-love with a collection who’s inspiration came from something entirely out my comfort zone. The feeling and vibe from this show was clearly evident: “sports” (anything involving speed, to be more specific). One element that remained reminiscent throughout the entire collection was peek-a-boo sheerness. *Cough* mesh, sheer panels and cut-outs *Cough*. Another interesting note was how he played with un-expected fabrics, mostly sport fabric, used in completely wearable pieces. The silhouette for this season on the other hand changed drastically when compared to last seasons baggier and more relaxed than the short, nipped on the waist with oversized panels serving as peplums, and more revealing one shown here. Breaking up with solid colors, prints were used to a maximum-minimum (If that makes sense to you. It does to me.) in a digitally layered botanical print used in some of the toughest pieces (the ombre cropped hoodie and pants combo -look 6 here-). The color palate was mostly dark with colors such as petrol blue, deep burgundy, mint, crisp whites and pops of color provided by some danger-zone-orange (I just made that name up). Now this is one way I could definitely fall in-love with sports.

“Status Fashion Night”

You all already know what Fashion’s Night Out is, well, then you’ll be more than excited to hear that Status Mag is organizing our very own Panamanian take on FNO. The event will be held the 15th of November (consider that date already saved) in MultiPlaza (mall extraordinaire) with more than 40 stores participating.

Which makes it a -can’t-miss-it- event.

“For the sake of obnoxiousness…”

I always forget this kind of things. I was featured in a magazine called “HIP” in their “Gente Hip (Hip People)” section in their 27th issue. And recently I was featured in an article/comment made in a newspaper magazine called “Ellas” (thanks to the lovely Alexa from So Hot So Me). The only funny thing was that the peeps at HIP made a silly mistake, they wrote my last name wrong (It’s F-E-U-I-L-L-E-B-O-I-S) and made me younger (they put me 15, when by that time I was actually 17). Well, that’s all for now. Happy Halloween, I’m gonna’ go and watch The Exorcist for the 198765th time while eating candy corn and peanut butter-filled chocolate balls.

Well well, I have to be little bit snobby and tell you that they’re making my prom dance suit, I’m literally super excited about it and can’t wait for the first fitting. “Better late than never…”

Well, this past 5th of October was my 18th birthday, also this past week has been a blur mostly because I was finishing a school project. Tomorrow I’m going out with some friends and I hope it won’t be like one of those “The Hills” episodes. Another thing before I log off, my comments about each fashion week will come eventually, I already have my favorites and I couldn’t be more excited.

“Classy Youngsters.”

After going through every collection presented in New York, I noticed a few designers, most of them new-comers: Wes Gordon, Billy Reid, Alexandria Hilfiger and Nary Manivong, Shane Gabier and Chris Peters, Steven Alan, and Araks Yeramyan (i said “most of them new-comers”, not all of them), who’s collections are, actually, really good. Yes, they all share some kind of similarity in terms of silhouettes, but overall this new generation of designers are looking back into bringing the basics alive again. Maybe they’re not everyone taste but i like them all.

Wes Gordon
The Central Saint Martins grad only has 2 season under his belt and it’s starting to show. The young designer, who interned in the studios of Tom Ford and Oscar de la Renta, presented a collection that mixed the thought of looking elegant yet hip and young. The tailoring on the clothes was exceptional and it can be easily spotted in the tailored-to-perfection pants and jackets (see the 1rst and 5th picture). The cherry-on-top of this collection was the finale gown, which, to me, clearly shows that he was trained in Oscar de la Renta. Between the high neck-ed warm-yellow (I just invented that name) top and the exploding midnight blue silk taffeta skirt, I couldn’t agree more that Gordon is walking in the right path (didn’t I sound like priest? ugh) and has a bright future ahead. Now let’s wait and see what he delivers next season.

Billy Reid
Reid, who started 3 seasons ago, presented for spring a more subtle and completely wearable warm collection. This menswear designer took on the road of doing more womenswear in which he clearly decided to match the many guys (speaking of the looks, not the models) he presented.To me he tried and won the golden nugget diamond ticket doing it (just made that up), to show the feminine and the masculine version of the same person (in this case since he’s a menswear designer, the 2 versions of the same man). Maybe it was pure irony, or it was just me who noticed it, but even the models matched. Everything rolls around the idea of Preppy meets Country-side.

NAHM
On the other hand, this collection was interesting since both the designers only focus on shirtdresses, it was interesting -I recall- to see how the invented new shapes, silhouettes… how they played with fabrics and colors to re-invent the aah uuhm eeh: ‘shirtdress’. Alexandria Hilfiger and Nary Manivong. Something that first came to my mind while I browsing this collection was Schoolgirl Uniforms from the 40’s transitioning from sweet innocent little girls, to slightly rebel teens, to senior prom nerdy young prom president (quite funny how I explain it). Since this is their second season (tadaaah their sophomore year) it will be really interesting to see what they show next season. *Crossed Fingers*.

Creatures of the Wind
Another up and coming label with 2 seasons in New York and others under it’s pocket. Designers Shane Gabier and Chris Peters presented one of my favorite collections this season. The psychedelic rebelness, the color scheme, the prints, the fabric, the styling, the silhouettes, everything was bloody amazing (try to say it in your best possible British accent, sounds a lot cooler). Young, fresh and fun. You’ll be stunned but I quite see a grown up Angelica Pickles from The Rugrats all over this collection. One of the many favorite pieces that I fell for in this collection was the, as I like to call it, neo-cowgirl-meets-New-York’s-private-high-school shirt made half of blue farmer plaid and half strawberry-ice-cream underneath an overlay of turquoise lace, the floral printed mid-calf-length shift dress with bright green lace ruffling on the bodice, to name a few. This Chicago based designers should show in London instead of New York, personally, I think they belong to that cool-rebel-punky-quirky London gang. They can be compared to, and I will dare to say, Christopher Kane, Jonathan Saunders, Richard Nicoll and Marios Schwab (to not mention all of the cool kids, because I could keep going on and on and on and on and on…). And this is yet another show I'm eagerly waiting next season.

Steven Alan
Yes, by now, you’ll be saying “oh, yet another preppy collection”. But that’s where I’ve been venturing lately. Steven Alan showed this season, been his 4th collection (including resort and this one), a collection full of wearable garments, completely relaxed and entirely preppy. Also, for me, a little bit of the 60’s were thrown into the mix here. The color scheme was basically neutrals and light tones with a few pops of bright colors here and there. The silhouettes weren’t new to our eyes but he definitely re-vamped those vintage-old-preppy silhouettes. My favorite look is the checkered black and white skinny pant suit (last look) which is the quintessential preppy uniform.

Araks
Araks Yeramyan is no new to the catwalk. She started in 2000 doing only lingerie, woman's lingerie, and jumped to womenswear ready-to-wear in 2006 being her debut collection. What I like about her is how she uses lingerie fabrics in unexpected pieces, how she bring the bedroom to the streets without being literal and tacky (hint, hint, hint, the 5th look here: the white dropped waist pleated chiffon calf-length dress). For this spring she presented a collection with quite a boyish charm yet super feminine. According to style dot com tennis uniforms were part of the inspiration, it showed, but there was no actual tennis uniforms, maybe from 1920’s/40’s/50’s. One look, which was really interesting, and that totally captured that boyish charm I mentioned above was the third look from left to right shown here: the dropped waist/crotch green pants paired with the navy blue -kind of straight cut- t-shirt over a crisp white button down. The floral print was also really beautiful and pretty, yet it didn’t look too matronly despite the oddly silhouette (last look here). And this is yet another designer who I’m really excited to look forward to next season.

So here i am again, doing what i could call one of the best pleasures of my life. New York Fashion Week (MBFW) by now has concluded and London is getting dressed up in a sassy way to walk down the catwalk. While that happens I’ll be writing what I loved and when I say (or write in this case) L O V E D, I mean it. So to start with New York, we saw the revival of Imitation of Christ after Tara Subkoff decided to call it Imitation, two seasons ago, presented a collection that echoed inside of my head for quite a while creating a dilemma on if I liked it or if I did not. The conclusion of that dilemma is quite, if not entirely, obvious. Everything reminds me of the Lisbon sisters (The Virgin Suicides/one of my favorite movies), how they would look if they were to get married (recalling the theme and the setting of the show and the collection) or how they would look if they were going to another homecoming dance (if it weren’t for their first tragic prom dance). Nostalgia was everywhere, it was as if nostalgia had pooped in that room. Yes, but that nostalgia was mixed with a little bit of commotion and awkwardness, since Lydia Hearts got married for real, in a pretty white lace dress with an organza peplum that seemed to appear ghostly fading from the bodice of the dress. The dresses were build in such an artsy way that tears of happiness could possibly run down the cheeks of any skeptic human being. Most of them beautifully crafted, re-creating that 1920’s affair that never went away during the mid 50’s to the mid 60’s. Lace was a key part of the whole collection, worked in so many ways, dyed here, with appliqués there, with embellishments above that, attached here, there… There was this dress (second look on the third picture here) which instantly caught my breath, fully worked in antique lace re-worked (I believe) with pink lace poppy's attached down the right shoulder, waist and down the skirt, with hand-cut strings of lace hanging down the left shoulder, that to me entirely captured the nostalgic memorabilia of prom dances from the 60’s, the Lisbon sister, 1920’s ladies, Lars von Trier’s Melancholia, and Carrie (not Bradshaw). And those were quite a few things that came to my mind after I finished watching the whole collection. Other details were sequins, pleats, and gorgeous prints. Birds are flying. Amazing collection.

New York Fashion Week starts in a few days and as Lulu is, she already flew to NYC. Yesterday, she landed at JFK airport wearing a Giambattista Valli resort 2012 look which we decided to wear sans the jacket. The thing about that look that caught our attention the most was how the flowers look (from a distance) like kiwis. Anyways, we paired the whole outfit with vintage purple stilettos and a Balenciaga motorcycle bag in Barbie pink (hate Barbie ugh, Lulu is so much better). We both are excited for a lot of shows over there, which you can't wait to see?.

WE (Lulu and I) fell in love with this dress the minute we saw it coming down the runway last season, and what a better stage to showcase it than Fashion Week Panama 2011. Lulu wore this Miu Miu spring 2011 dress to the 3rd and last day of Fashion Week Panama 2011, paired with a Versus box clutch and vintage magenta-bubble gum pumps.

Greta Bayo, on the other hand, presented a collection called “Cia Eddie”, inspired by Eddie Sedgwick. The soundtracks and the overall collection completely matched Eddie. Well, the second day of Fashion Week Panama 2011 started with the Instituto Marangoni graduate: Fernanda Quiros. She presented a collection entirely around mixing fabrics, print and colors, called: “Pura Jagua” (in spanish). Inspired by the aborigines of our country and 40’s french architecture. I loved the overall collection, it felt clean, light and fresh.

So on the 2nd day of FWP 2011 Lulu Macaroon decided to go a little bit patriotic by wearing 2 colors from the Panamanian flag (hence red, blue and white). And thanks to the mix and match we did with the Michael Kors pre-fall 2011 (top and pants from this look, paired with the trench coat from this look) with an Hermes clutch and vintage magenta pumps. This was the last show presented on the first day of Fashion Week Panama this year. The brand is called Pink Filosofy and was part of the international designers/brands who supported FWP this year. Designed by both Colombian born and based designer Johanna Ortiz and model Adriana Arboleda. They both created a really bohemian collection full of cotton jersey in a warm color scheme draping pieces all over the models body. Everything was really simple yet beautiful.

Here are some pictures from an emerging national designer showing for the first time in Fashion Week Panama. Paola Cantagalli’s collection consisted of super wearable pieces with slightly twists, as in the circle-detailed-overlay dresses and skirts. That grey dress was my favorite. One beautiful note from this show was the fluidity and the movement of the fabrics and how happy the overall collection felt and turned out.

One of the many international designers who came to support Fashion Week Panama this year. Colombian born and based designer, Johanna Ortiz, showed a collection full of fluidity, lightness and femininity. The collection overall was simple yet sort of sexy (Dear Obama, I can’t believe I’m saying the word “sexy”). Johanna Ortiz was quite the show who stole the limelight from that night.

“FWP 2011 Open Letter”

It was 1:15 p.m. (to be exact) when the bell rang, i soon grabbed my backpack, throwed my hoodie on my back and started running to my mom’s car, she was there gently waiting for me to jump in. I reached home at 1:45 p.m., ate almost nothing and started to get ready trying to set a record so i could get early to the place where Fashion Week Panama was been held. As soon as i finished, i, again, jumped back into the car and my mom and i hit the road (with Lady Gaga’s Born This Way album as a soundtrack). When i finally reached the location where everything was going to take place, i fixed my shirt, tucked it into my jeans, cleaned my reading glasses and got out of the car literally running of joy to the tent, because after a tumultuous way to begin the year, finally Fashion Week was getting ready to go out and have fun (think of it [Fashion Week Panama] as a new “IT” girl). When i got in, i marched my way to the press-booth, took my sit and waited for everything to start. As soon as the lights turned off and the music started, the first model walked in, I felt joy. With everything I said above, I wanted to exorcise how those 3 days were for me, yes it was awesome and joyful, yet there were some issues. I’m a strong believer that my country, some day, will be ready for high fashion, yet now we must support what’s happening with fashion nowadays here. Yes we’re still in diapers, but that’s an awesome pair of sequined diapers. Another thing that I noted was that many of us, Panamanians, think of national designers as the worst thing in the planet, and let me tell you that you won’t even believe the amount of creativity those people inject into our society, into our culture, a much needed cultural injection. Fashion is world wide movement, influenced by everything, I just cant help myself but I have to say that I blame partly the ignorance and of course the lack of knowledge about that world [Fashion], a thing that makes most of the people in my country reluctant about it. There’s a few amount of people who actually care, understand and try to inject fashion into our culture (designers, some editors, and mostly national fashion bloggers). And yes, how could I forget about Physical. The only model agency that actually tries to set everything together, and who were the ones responsible for Fashion Week Panama happen. I would like to conclude saying that we, as Panamanians, instead of criticizing our national designers, as patriots, we must applaud them and support them for doing something that not everyone was born to do. And not only national designers, also the bloggers, and not because I am one (well partly because i am one), because we literally inject fashion in a deep personal way into our culture for free. Now let’s be more open minded.

“My Favorites From Milan Menswear Fashion Week Spring 2012: Prada and Jil Sander.”

Miuccia’s spring 2012 collection for menswear was quite the most bright, fun, quirky collection with the right amount of girly-ness a man could ask for. Her contradictory way to get inspiration took her this time for a golf tournament, which could be easily assumed by the set of the show, the many golf-bags the models carried down the runway (which I did not include here) and, of course, the grass looking-esqe carpet that covered the whole set. Highlights of this collections were the childish and odontology's-esqe printed shirts, jackets and pants, that gave the garments a naïve feeling; the Village People-esqe studded jackets; the flowery 50’s-early-60’s printed pants, jackets and shirts; and the ice-cream colored oxfords. Now double the corny-ness in you and listen “Karma Chameleon” by Culture Club while watching the runway video up on Prada’s website.

Jil Sander

Raf Simmons outing for Jil Sander presented a collection that reminded me of Oliver Twist, obviously, in a much modern way (in the Oliver Twist-way). And continuing with the childish-thing I’m having at the moment, I find this collection quite transcendental, as it remind me of the child inside me. According to Tim Blanks review for style dot com: “…with a mens collection for Jil Sander that aimed similarly telescope the style of the postwar decade into one disorienting whole.”, Oliver Twist, anyone?. That postwar note was quite visible in the shorts, most of the high-waisted, specially the one paired with the snake-skin printed shirt, nipping in the waist of the model and giving him a much more delicate figure; and on the many combat boots presented. Yes, the simplicity was there and the lack of color was very well welcomed. My favorite pieces from this collection were the heavy crochet knitted sweaters and pull-overs, the shinny eel-skin jacket, and all the shorts.

Leanne Marshall, winner of the 5th season of Project Runway US. also forms part of the group of the international designers that will show their creations in the most expected fashionable event of the year: FASHION WEEK PANAMA 2011.
Since she was 12 years old, she knew that se wanted to be a fashion designer, and since then she started to create her own dresses and proposed her ballet teachers sketches for the costumes of the functions in which she participated.
She was an outstanding student, that studied through a scholarship at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco US. Once she graduated she maintained working as a full-time graphic designer, she continued designing during her free time.
When she moved to Portland, Oregon, Leanne began to participate in small fashion shows there, creating her own label “LEANIMAL”.
In 2008 she decided to participate in Project Runway’s Season 5, were she became the winner that year.
Leanne is inspired by nature, architecture and modern silhouettes, nevertheless, almost all of her pieces are easy to wear.
Leanne has dressed many celebrities, among Paula Abdul, jury of the popular American Idol, who wore a beautiful pink dress to the auditions of “The X Factor”, directed by Simon Caldwell, who produces the new American version of the show, seeking singing talents from the whole world.
Marshall will be showing her creations in a fashion show during FASHION WEEK PANAMA 2011, set to be happening the 14th, 15th and 16th of July. The tickets are already on sale at the offices of Physical Models and at the nonprofit organizations that will be benefited from this mega fashion production considered to be the largest and most important of Central America.

The organization behind Fashion Week Panama officially announces that next Friday, the 15th of July within the framework of Panamanian Fashion Week, a VIP presentation will be held around 5:30 p.m. to showcase the newest collection of the famous Venezuelan fashion designer Angel Sanchez.

Sanchez has already visited Panama, his last visit was more than 10 years ago, before becoming one of the most prestigious Latin-American fashion designers. After passing by Panama, he moved to New York with the objective of conquering it, in spite of being known world-wide for his spectacular wedding dresses and ball gowns, Sanchez has decided, with the support of a great production team, what many other designers of haute couture have done, that is to show a collection focusing on the excellence of it’s design, taken to feminine dresses with geometric silhouettes, a very “Sanchez” trademark, designed for elegant women who need to look “haute-couture” all day.

Nowadays his designs can be seen on the racks of Saks 5th avenue, Neiman Marcus and presented during New York Fashion Week.

The collection named SANCHEZ will be shown during the second day of FWP, sponsored by “La Caja de Ahorros”, a bank that has always supported national talent and that is also in charge of showing the best national fashion designers in 2 showcases.

The VIP presentation that begins around 5:30 p.m., in which funds will be raised for FANLYC, will also have the participation, in addition to SANCHEZ, of other designers like: Edda González, Jean Mackens, Francesca Blasser, Fernanda Quiros and Irma Casís.

The second showcase, on that same day, will raise funds for Operation Smile Foundation, it’ll begin around 7:45 p.m. and it will show the newest collection of national and international fashion designers such as Jaime Luna, Michelle Zarak, Greta Bayo, Maria Carolina Mejía (from Colombia), Alessandra Grau and Dominican designer Carlos Then Frank (winner of the “most emergent design” in DominicanaMODA 2009).

La organización Fashion Week Panamá anuncia oficialmente que el próximo viernes 15 de julio en el marco de la semana de la moda panameña, se realizará un Desfile VIP a las 5:30 p.m. con la nueva propuesta del afamado diseñador venezolano Ángel Sanchez.

Sanchez ya ha visitado panamá pero su última visita fue hace más de 10 años, antes de volverse uno de los diseñadores latinos más prestigiosos en el mundo de la moda. Después de pasar por Panamá, este venezolano se mudó a Nueva York con el objetivo de conquistarla, y a pesar de ser mundialmente conocido por sus espectaculares trajes de novia y trajes de gala, con el apoyo de un gran equipo de producción ha decidido lo que muchos otros diseñadores de alta costura hacen, que es exponer una propuesta de excelencia en diseño, de alta costura, llevada a trajes femeninos con un corte geométrico diferente, con un sello muy SANCHEZ, para mujeres elegantes que requieren verse de alta costura durante todo el día.

Hoy en día sus diseños se pueden ver expuestos en Saks 5th avenue, Neiman Marcus y en las colecciones anuales del Fashion Week New York.

La colección SANCHEZ de Ángel Sanchez, se presentará en el marco de los desfiles del 15 de julio, presentados por la CAJA DE AHORROS, un banco que siempre apoya al talento nacional y que se encarga de proyectar a los mejores diseñadores nacionales en dos showcases diferentes.

En el showcase VIP que comienza a las 5:30pm del día viernes, en el cual se recaudarán fondos a través de la boletería para FANLYC participarán además de SANCHEZ, diseñadores como: Edda González, Jean Mackens, Francesca Blasser, Fernanda Quiros e Irma Casís.

El segundo showcase del viernes será a beneficio de la Fundación Operación Sonrisa comenzará a las 7:45pm y expondrán su creatividad hecha vestimenta los diseñadores: Jaime Luna, Michelle Zarak, Greta Bayo, Maria Carolina Mejía (Colombia), Alessandra Grau y el dominicano Carlos Then Frank (Ganador de mejor diseño emergente en DominicanaMODA 2009).
